The challenge of the Presidential Sports Award and the NY SKATE Sports Award
is to make a commitment to fitness through active and regular participation in
sports and fitness activities. Earning the award means that you have put in time
and effort to meet the challenge of physical fitness. The awards recognize this
achievement, and the fact that you are part of a national effort toward a healthier,
more vital America. We hope that you encourage your family, friends, classmates
and teammates to join in earning this special distinction.
It is very important that participants take necessary steps to make their activity
safe and enjoyable. Unfortunately incidental injuries can occur even when proper
safety precautions are taken. To make the best effort in order to enjoy your
blading activity, always wear your wrists, knees, and elbows gear and your
helmet.
For participants, ages six and up, the following criteria must be fulfilled over a
four month period. Special exceptions are made for such circumstances as, and
not limited to, injury, illness, change of season, change of medical history, and
must be explained briefly when participant applies to receive and award.
To participate in the NY SKATE Sports Award Program, the participant must
blade/in-line skate for a minimum of 50 hours with no more than one hour credited
to the total per day.
Keep a careful record of your participation on the fitness log provided on the
other side of this page. Other copies are available, or you may attach other sheets
of paper. Remember that a parent/guardian must sign and verify each one hour
entry for participants under age.
When you have finished the 50 hours for the NY SKATE Sports Award Program
submit or send your log with a check for $10 to NY SKATE.
Each recipient will receive:
A certificate from the NY SKATE program
A special certificate of achievement from the President of the United States
A letter of congratulations from the Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, suitable for framing
An embroided blazer patch
A sports bag identification tag
A shoe pocket to hold ID, money, keys, etc. while you blade
